Outer Space

black sheet of card stock paper (construction paper is too thin with the amount of paint used)
white crayon
white paint
paint brush
star stickers

Trace a circle (a cereal bowl works great) with the white crayon onto the black card stock.
Mix paint and flour to make a mixture that looks similar to cottage cheese.
Paint mixture onto the circle.
Decorate with star stickers.
Let dry.

Moon Rock
Gray paint (I mixed white and black)
Silver glitter
moon-like rocks
tissue paper

Paint rock and put on square pieces of tissue paper.
Sprinkle glitter all over
Allow to dry

Making Moon Craters
A large rectangle cake pan
coca powder
small items (i.e.: lego's, marshmallow, pingpong ball)

Place a layer of flour in the cake pan.  Sift cocoa powder on top.
Drop the items into the pan and see what kind of craters it makes. (i.e.: big/small/deep)

Alien clip art (google search)
construction paper
wiggly eyes

Alien Play Doh
Mix wiggle eyes in play doh for the kids to find.

Looking Out of a Rocket Ship Window

Planet Game
Choose one child to be the sun and stand in an open space. Then have other children pretend to be planets and walk around the sun in circles, or orbits, never bumping into one another. Continue as long as interest lasts.

Tuning Up For Outer Space
Tune: The Farmer in the Dell

The sun is in the sky. The sun is in the sky.

Hot and bright, it gives us light.

The sun is in the sky.

The moon is in the sky.

The Moon is in the sky.
Around and 'round the earth it goes.
The moon is in the sky.

The stars are in the sky.
The stars are in the sky.
Twinkly bright, they shine at night.
The stars are in the sky.

Tune:  “I’m A Little Teapot”

I’m a little astronaut
Flying to the moon.
My rocket is ready,
We blast off soon.

I climb aboard
And close the hatch.
5-4-3-2-1, off we blast!

Tune:  “The Farmer In The Dell”

We’re flying to the moon.
We’re going to blast off soon.
Grab your helmets and your suits.
We’re flying to the moon.

Did you feel the blast?
We’re climbing up so fast.
Hang on tight, what a sight!
We’re flying to the moon.

We’re soaring through the air.
I think we’re almost there.
Retro Rockets going off!
We’ve landed on the moon!

We climb down the stairs,
With our tanks of air.
We plant a flag, then grab some rocks
And take them back to earth.

We’re flying oh so fast.
Then we’re home at last.
What a flight, what a sight.
Flying to the moon!
