Staying Healthy Doctor Theme

Doctor Bag

  • Black, white, and red construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue and tape
  • Q-tips, large craft stick, bandaids, a cotton ball, gauze bandage and other ‘medical’ supplies you might have around {that are safe for preschoolers}
  • 8 1/2 x 11 piece of black construction paper
1. From the black construction paper, fold in half for the doctor’s bag as well.  Cut out two handles.  Glue the handles onto the bag.
2. Cut out two thin rectangles from the red construction paper and glue together to make a ‘red cross’.
3. Cut out a white circle and glue your ‘red cross’ on. Glue the circle and cross onto your bag.
4. Open the bag and glue/tape all of your medical supplies into the bag.

Materials:  Egg Cartons, hole punch  pipecleaners
Let the children decorate 2 cups from an egg carton. Punch holes in the sides and attach pipe cleaners to it for a stethescope.

This is a wonderful demonstration of the importance of covering our mouths when we cough or sneeze!
Materials needed: a balloon, holes from a hole puncher, a permanent marker.
Place the holes in the balloon, blow it up and twist the end but don't tie it. Draw a face on it using the end that you blow on as the mouth.
Tell the kids that there are germs inside of Mr. Balloon and he is going to remember to cover his mouth as he coughs....then let the air out of the balloon covering the opening with your hand (only a few germs should escape).
Then blow him back up and show them what happens to Mr. Balloons germs when he coughs and forgets to cover his mouth....germs fly all over the room.
Use a very fine glitter and sprinkle some on a smooth surface before talking to the group.  Then talk about germs and how they spread.
Pretend to cough or sneeze over the surface and then wipe your hand over the glitter.  Then touch the children's hands, leaving a little of the glitter on their hands, explaining that this is what happens when we cough or sneeze without covering our noses or mouths.
The best way to remove glitter is to wash hands, so use that time to show how germs can be washed away, too!
